Purpose:The aim of this study was to evaluate newly developed BiolandTM rapid kit for antibody screening of Clonorchis sinensis and Paragonimus westermani.
Materials and Methods : 150 positive sera for C. sinensis confirmed by ELISA or microscopic examination of stool, and 60 positive sera for P. westermani confirmed by ELISA or microscopic examination of sputum were used for the evaluation of the rapid kit. For negative samples, the sera of 100 healthy Korean residents were used. The analysis by both rapid kit and ELISA for C. sinensis and P. westermani were concurrently performed.
Results:
The sensitivity and specificity of rapid test for C. sinensis was 95.3% (143/150) and 96% (96/100), respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of rapid test for P. westermani was 95% (57/60) and 97% (97/100), respectively. The respective sensitivity and specificity of ELISA was 82% and 92% for C. sinensis, and 92% and 95% for P. westermani.
Conclusion: BiolandTM rapid kit for antibody screening of C. sinensis and P. westermani gave comparable or superior results to ELISA. Thus, these rapid kits would be very useful for the identification and epidemiologic survey of C. sinensis and P. westermani.
